Toppblokk-LowEmission

Dear LowEmission friend,

Another year has passed, and we are pleased to present you with the 2021 edition of the LowEmission annual report. The topic of Norway's emissions – and how to reduce them – is as relevant as it ever was, which makes developing an array of solutions to reach our climate goals all the more important.

We look forward to another year of research and collaboration with our partners. Read on to get the latest update about our activities.

Regards,
Stefania Gardarsdottir
Acting LowEmission Centre Director

Arendalsuka and COP26

LowEmission, along with FMEs NCCS, NorthWind and NTRANS, contributed to a high-level report presented at Arendalsuka. The report was titled "Nordsjøen som plattform for grønn omstilling". LowEmission also co-wrote to another report, in collaboration with the same group of research centres. This second report was presented at COP26, the United Nations Climate Summit in Glasgow, UK. That report was titled "The North Sea as a springboard for the green transition".

Offshore energy hubs: a useful tool to decarbonise the Norwegian continental shelf's energy system

Offshore energy hubs are poised to play an important role in the North Sea's green transition. These hubs will serve as connecting points and storage sites for the energy produced with offshore renewables. Building them optimally to get the best results at the lowest possible cost will require careful analysis. … Read more

Wind energy for offshore installations:
Opportunities and challenges

Natural gas represented approximately 50% of the Norwegian production of oil equivalents in 2020. However, not all gas extracted from the Norwegian Continental Shelf is transported to land. Part of it is burnt in low-efficiency, single-cycle gas turbines … Read more
